Matilda Duncan decries FG’s punitive decision against Tekno

Nigerian On-Air personality Matilda Duncan has lent her voice to the hasty decision of the arts authorities in Nigeria to punish musician Tekno over his controversial semi-nude video.

The National Council for Arts and Culture (NCAC), a parastatal of the Federal Ministry of Information and Culture, had said in a statement on Sunday that the singer would be punished “because his conduct is a threat to national security”.

According to the Director-General, Segun Runsewe, Tekno would be used as a scapegoat to serve as a deterrent to others to send strong signals that the government “does not tolerate nonsense and immorality.”

The decision by the NCAC has, however, been criticised by a section of Nigerians on social media including Ubi Franklin who believes the punishment is needless as there are more pressing issues begging for solution and nudity is not one of them.

Reacting to the strong-worded statement on her Instagram account, Duncan questioned why the Federal Government would place priorities of the country aside to punish a “harmless” entertainer apparently over a nude video.

“National Threat ??? #scapegoat ??? this harmless Face? @teknoofficial … All because???? A video ?? Please what is Nudity?? Where the ladies not in bikinis?? (Not that I say what he did was right o) b4 you all come at me!!!” she asked rhetorically.

She added: “But, What are the priorities of this Country… like: where is Hamisu Wadume ??? Is Leah dead… ?? #why detain a Man for 45 days without evidence??? Ex-INEC boss was bribed ?? The list can go on…. wait.. #biodunfatoyinbo is back on the pulpit, #Ruga has just be put in the national Budget.. and where the hell is the #FRSC rider that tried to #KILLME…. ??? You people are looking for #TEKNO …. #mshewwwww”
