Drake gives Arya Stark shoutout during Billboard Music Awards acceptance speech

Drake took to the stage on Wednesday at the Billboard Music Awards to accept the Top Billboard 200 Album for Scorpion, when he gave an surprise shout-out.

At the end of his speech, the 32-year-old Canadian singer, and longtime Game of Thrones fan gave a shout-out to Maisie Williams’ character Arya Stark.

‘Shout out to Arya Stark for putting in that work last week,’ Drake said, before laughing and heading off the stage.

He ended up winning 12 awards in total on the night, of 17 nominations, which brings his all-time total to 27 Billboard Music Awards, the most of any artist ever.

Drake’s shout-out was in reference to Sunday night’s Game of Thrones episode, The Long Night, where Arya Stark shockingly killed The Night King.

Arya’s surprise attack not only killed The Night King, but every other white walker under his command, bringing the Battle of Winterfell to an end.

There was also another Game of Thrones connection to the Billboard Music Awards, with Sophie Turner, who plays Arya’s sister Sansa Stark, presenting with her X-Men: Dark Phoenix star Tye Sheridan.

Drake even used the long-held theory that he ‘curses’ sports teams whose jersey he wears, and gave it a Game of Thrones twist.

The Toronto-born rapper was seen at a Toronto Maple Leafs hockey game, with a Maple Leafs jersey that had an image of The Night King on the front, instead of the Maple Leafs emblem.

As it turned out, using that ‘curse’ to his advantage worked, as Arya killed the Night King with her valyrian steel blade during The Long Night.

On his 2015 mixtape If You Are Reading This It’s Too Late, he made a Game of Thrones reference on the song You & the 6.

The song, which is directed at his mother who raised him on her own in Toronto after divorcing his father, referenced the bloody Red Wedding in Season 3 of Game of Thrones.

‘I pull the knife out my back and cut they throat with it, momma/I’m Game of Thrones with it, momma,’ Drake sings in one lyric.

Drake also won Top Male Artist, beating out Post Malone, Travis Scott, Ed Sheeran and the late XXXTentacion.

The Canadian rapper (real name Aubrey Drake Graham) also won the coveted Top Artist award, along with Top Streaming Artist, Top Billboard 200 Artist, Top Radio Songs Artist, Top Hot 100 Artist, Top Song Sales Artist, Top Rap Artist, Top Rap Male Artist, Top Streaming Song (In My Feelings) and Top Rap Album.

Drake recently wrapped up his Assassination Vacation tour, where he revealed he’s currently working on a new album.
