Scores of fans of Nigerian rapper Naira Marley early Saturday morning stormed the premises of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) to demand his immediate and unconditional release.
The embattled musician is still in custody after one week since he was arrested alongside Zlatan Ibile and three others by officials of the anti-graft agency Friday, 10th May, in connection with an alleged case of internet fraud & money laundering.
Zlatan Ibile, his personal assistant, Rahman Jago and houseboy, Guccy Branch were released on bail on May 14, but Naira Marley remains in detention because the EFCC found incriminating files on his laptop and phone.
This development has sparked tension on social media and the music industry with colleagues pleading with the security agency to release Marley, one who is Veteran singer Daddy Showkey who sent out a plea to the EFCC to “temper justice with mercy.”
But just two days after announcing Naira Marley would be arraigned on 11 counts of credit card fraud on Monday, May 20, 2019, disgruntled fans of the musician took to the streets this morning to protest against his arrest with chants of “Free Naira Marley.”
While some brandished placards with the inscription “EFCC Please” others said “We miss you Naira Marley”
