‘Naira Marley is a negative influence’ – Twitter users berate singer for promoting fraud

Rapper Naira Marley has been trending on Twitter in Nigeria for the wrong reasons yet again.

This is coming after the United States announced the arrest and prosecution of 80 alleged fraudsters, many of whom are Nigerians, in what it called a massive conspiracy to commit fraud through various schemes.

Many users have taken to social media to criticise the musician for glorifying Internet fraud, known as “yahoo” in Nigeria, in his music – an act which they believe has tarnished the country’s image on the international level.

His songs Am I Yahoo Boy, which landed him in EFCC custody, Soapy and Opotoyi have all sparked controversy online with regards to contents of the lyrics.

The report of the FBI arrests has evoked emotions with many people accusing the singer of being a negative influence on the youth, promoting illegal acts and social vices.
