Afrobeats star Seun Kuti has hailed Ondo State Governor Rotimi Akeredolu’s call to the Federal Government to consider the cultivation of medicinal cannabis in Nigeria.
Akeredolu was on a recent trip to Thailand for a programme tagged, ‘Medicinal Cannabis Extract Development,’ which assessed the materials and best practices of medicinal cannabis planting and growing.
While reckoning the possibility of replicating the system in Nigeria, he described Ondo State as a “hotbed of cannabis cultivation”.
“With an estimated value of $145 Billion in 2025, we [Nigeria] would be shortchanging ourselves if we failed to tap into the Legal Marijuana Market,” he tweeted.
The Grammy-nominated musician, like many Nigerians, appears to be enthused about Akeredolu’s request to the government as he has expressed his readiness to relocate to Ondo to be a beneficiary should the substance be legalized.
In reaction, Seun Kuti in a post on Instagram said that there is no better pain reliever than marijuana.
He said: “Ehn Mr excellency sir, if u want me to move to your state, just say so. This beating about the bush is unnecessary. Afrobeat is about to switch home base y’all. Just imagine one good joint for my back ache then better Ondo pounded yam to heal my stomach pain’.
