Finance minister, AGF spurn Senate’s invitation yet again

 Senator Barau Jibrin, All Progressives Congress, APC, expressed his disappointment  over the absence of the Minister of Finance Mrs Zainab Ahmed  and the Director-General of Budget Office Ben Akabueze which were very key to the meeting scheduled for Thursday @ 2pm.

The Senator who noted that the meeting was originally scheduled to hold two weeks ago, but was shifted at the request of the Minister of Finance and the DG Budget Office, said,

“We have invited Minister of Finance and Director General of Budget office in order to have a brief about 2020 budget performance, this is the second time we are scheduling this meeting, we are here and we are supposed to hold this meeting two weeks ago, but we postponed the meeting at the instance of Minister of Finance and the Director-General of Budget”.

While speaking to the press on Thursday, the meeting was postponed 2weeks back in request of both the Minster of Finance and the Director General of Budget office which where then absent in the fixed date.

He went further to say the meeting has to be rescheduled again due to the absence of the key Drivers of the economy.

Recall, that the Senate had on June 10, 2020, passed the revised 2020 budget of N10.8 trillion.

Senetor Jibrin still speaking to the press had this to say;

We are going to adjourn the meeting and find out why they are not here, we are going to reschedule the meeting for another date.”

Before hitting the gavel and adjourning the meeting, Senator Jubrin said it is very important for his committee to conduct the exercise as part of its constitutional mandate to ensure proper implementation, adding,

“The budget performance is something that is dear to us, very important, it is part of the mandate of this committee.”

The budget means nothing, if not implemented. It is part of our mandate to always oversight what is going on about budget performance, particularly this time that we want the economy to be fully up and running after the lock down due to Covid-19, but it is unfortunate that they are not here, we will find out why they are not here.
