Nursery and primary schools in the Rivers state have been permitted to reopen for academic activities from the 23 of November.
Governor Wike wants COVID-19 safety measures to be implemented in schools.
The office of the commissioner of education, Prof. Kaniye Ebeku, disclosed that the permission was given by the state governor, Nyesom Wike, Vanguard reported.
According to a statement, the resumption was for the commencement of the first term, 2020/2021 academic session.
The statement read in part:
“This is to inform the general public that His Excellency Governor Nyesom Wike, CON, GSSRS, POS (Africa), Governor of Rivers State, has approved the reopening of all Public and Private Nursery and Primary Schools in the State with effect from Monday 23rd November 2020 for First Term 2020/2021 academic session, in line with the School Calendar published by the Ministry of Education in August 2020.”
The government told teachers and head of schools to make sure that all COVID-19 measures are put in place.
