The Hope Democratic Party (HDP) on Tuesday petitioned the Presidential Election Petition Tribunal sitting in Abuja to stop President’s Muhammadu Buhari’s swearing-in which is now slated for May 29.

The party is also reported to be seeking an order stopping the Chief Justice of Nigeria (CJN) from swearing-in.

According to HDP, one of the reason for filing the motion is that there is an ongoing petition challenging the results of the 2019 presidential elections.

The party which had a paltry 1,663 votes in the elections, said unless the swearing-in cancelled, Buhari will foil a “a fiat accompli and state of hopelessness on the court and render their petition nugatory.”
