Enyimba, Pillars, Akwa battle for NPFL title as Super 6 ends

The 2019 Nigeria Professional Football League playoff, also known as Super 6, will end today with tricky ties to be played at the Agege township stadium in Lagos.

While Enyimba FC, Kano Pillars, Akwa United and Enugu Rangers will be in the hunt for the league title and continental tickets, the whipping team of the championship, FC IfeanyiUbah will be in search of their first and only victory.

The ‘Nnewi millionaires’ have lost all four matches and are placed last on the table.

Table toppers Enyimba will battle third-placed Akwa United, Lobi Stars in fourth place will face second placed Kano Pillars just as bottom of the table team, FC IfeanyiUbah will slug it out with fourth placed Rangers in another ‘oriental derby’.

Mathematically, the battle for the league crown is a straight fight between Enyimba and Kano Pillars but Akwa United also have a chance depending on their result against Enyimba.

If Akwa beat Enyimba convincingly and Kano Pillars lose to Lobi Stars, the title will be theirs on the final day.

However, Akwa United will lose both the title and a chance to play in the continent, if they lose to Enyimba and Rangers beat FC IfeanyiUbah to amass eight points.

If Enyimba lose lose to Akwa and Pillars beat Lobi Stars, the ‘masu gida’ boys will be crowned champions but both Enyimba and Akwa will settle for the remaining Champions League slot and Confederation Cup ticket.

FC IfeanyiUbah are out of contention but Lobi Stars can still squeeze through to the continent, if Akwa United and Rangers lose to Enyimba and FC IfeanyiUbah.
