Kano Pillars’ Ibrahim surprised by exclusion from Flying Eagles squad

Kano Pillars midfielder, Alhassan Ibrahim has expressed shock over his exclusion from the Flying Eagles squad that will represent Nigeria at this year’s FIFA U-20 World Cup in Poland.

The immensely talented left-footed youngster played an integral role in the team’s qualification for the world youth championship.

He played all matches at the Africa U-20 Championship in Niger where the Flying Eagles placed fourth to qualify for the 2019 World Cup. After impressive performances in Niamey, the Pillars youngster was highly favoured to make the final list for the World Cup.

However, he was not picked for the training camp and when the final list was released on Monday, Ibrahim’s name was missing.

When contacted, he said “I am yet to understand what happened. I was shocked and surprised how things have turned out.

“I don’t know what went wrong. Believe me I did my best for the team right from day one. I was one of those who put in their best in Niger for the team to qualify for the World Cup.

“If someone can explain to me why I was dropped, I will be very happy,” he said.

When asked if he had issues with the coach, Ibrahim said he never had any problem with the coach or other members of the coaching crew.

‘I don’t have any problem with the coaches. I don’t think it has anything to do with indiscipline. Those who know me can attest to the fact that I am disciplined,” he said. Ibrahim, however, wished the team the best of luck in Poland.
