Super Eagles coach Gernot Rohr has provided an insight into how he will approach the games against Seychelles on March 22 and Egypt on March 26.
Rohr has hinted that he could give fringe and new players opportunities to impress him and his technical team.
Reacting to a question on why he called up bulky striker Paul Onuachu, Rohr explained that the forward’s qualities add a new dimension to his team and he will certainly give him enough minutes in the games to show his talent to Nigerians.
Rohr reaffirmed his belief in Odion Ighalo as his first choice centre forward but admitted that the team lacks a player with Onuachu’s qualities.
“You know that we have possibility to see everybody because we have two games, even we have four games because the U-23s are playing also. You will see a lot of players,” Rohr said at a media parley attended by allnigeriasoccer.com.
“Paul Onuachu, he will play for at least 45 minutes or even more. We are searching for a player with his profile, tall, he is more than two meters tall. We have Ighalo already and we are very satisfied with what he’s doing since the World Cup.
“We have Paul Onuachu, perhaps another possibility, he has a different profile. It is interesting to see him playing together with Ahmed Musa, Iwobi or Henry. Samuel Chukwueze is with the U23s.”
The Eagles will continue their preparations for Friday’s game today with training at the Stephen Keshi Stadium in Asaba.
Rohr will have the full complement of his squad following the arrivals of all invited players
