Nigeria’s preparations for the upcoming 2019 FIFA World Cup has not gone according to plan after the Super Falcons suffered their second defeat at the ongoing four-nation invitational tournament in Cyprus.
The Falcons had hoped to use the tournament as a dress rehearsal for this year’s World Cup but the results they have chalked suggests more work needs to be done if they are to make an impression at the FIFA World Cup to be staged in France.
Belgium, who will also participate at the World Cup beat the African champions 1-0 to dent Nigeria’s chances of winning the 4 nation tournament.
Belgium showed their supremacy early in the game, scoring as early as the seventh minute through Elena Dhont.
Nigeria sprung to life after going behind in the game and posed an attacking threat through Barcelona forward Asisat Oshoala but to no avail.
The four-nation tournament has provided a damning verdict on Nigeria’s preparations with the Super Falcons having lost two matches in the tournament as they bow out as the bottom side losing two straight matches.
The Super Falcons were beaten by Slovakia by 4-1 in their first game at the four-nation tournament in Cyprus.
