The Flying Eagles of Nigeria and their Ukranian counterparts will clash in a make or break encounter in the final group game of the 2019 FIFA under-20 World Cup.
The Eagles began the tournament on a bright note, producing four goals and a clean sheet as they swept aside Qatar.
But a 2-0 defeat to the United States has placed Nigeria’s stay in the tournament under threat making tonight’s game a must-win for coach Paul Aigbogun and his players.
Ukraine top Group D with six points and have their qualification in the next stage of the tournament sealed.
The Europeans fought hard to defeat the US 2-1 in their opening game before pipping Qatar 1-0 in the second group match.
A win for Flying Eagles will add three more points to their already accrued points and place them in a good position for qualification.
Ukraine on the other hand would want to win to consolidate their lead at the top of the Group D which will mean that they will skip some of the big teams in the tournament.
Both teams go toe-to-toe at the Bielsko-Biala Stadium as from 7.30pm Nigeria time tonight, with the Flying Eagles determined to take the game to their opponents and get a win.
News from Nigeria’s camp is not encouraging with influential defender Valentine Ozornwafor and midfielder Jamil Muhammad ruled out of the game but Aigbogun still has enough talents to rely on for the victory.
After an uninspiring and lethargic performance against US, coach Aigbogun will most likely ring some changes in the starting team for tonight’s game.
