Valentine Ozornwafor to miss Flying Eagles game against Ukraine

Flying Eagles defender Valentine Ozornwafor has been ruled out of their final group game against Ukraine in the ongoing FIFA U-20 World Cup.

The Flying Eagles take on Ukraine on Thursday in a group decider but have been hit with injuries to two of their key players.

Midfielder Jamil Muhammad has already been ruled out of the rest of the tournament after sustaining an injury in Nigeria’s first game and the latest news from the team’s camp is that Ozornwafor has joined him in the treatment room.

Initial examinations conducted indicate that the young defender will play no part in today’s game. Further examinations will be done to decide if he will be ready for the subsequent games.

“Valentine Ozornwafor will miss Thursday’s game against Ukraine,” A short message from the team’s media office said.

“He got a knock in our game with the United States along with Rabiu Muhammad but while Rabiu has overcome his injury worries and even took part in the sessions we had on Tuesday and Wednesday.

“Ozornwafor also tried his best but he was unable to complete the entire sessions. It was suggested that he is excused out of the game to keep him fit for the next game if we progress.

“We have some other defenders that will step in, in the absence of the Enyimba defender. We are marching forward towards the game on Thursday with optimism that we are going to do Nigerians proud.”

The Eagles commenced the tournament with a commanding 4-0 victory over Qatar before losing 2-0 to the United States.
